SECTION: Sedgwick County Health Center – Hospital
POSITION TITLE: Registered Nurse – Night Shift
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director Of Nursing
STARTING WAGE: From $39/ Per Hour
Sign On Bonus of $5,000 with a 3 year commitment
Shift Differentials: $5 per hour for Nights
$3 per hour Saturday & Sunday Days

JOB SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse (R.N.) assesses, collects, and organizes data to develop a Plan of Care through the use of the Nursing Process. The R.N. utilizes critical thinking to plan and select appropriate interventions that result in the desired patient outcomes. The R.N. directs and accepts responsibility for immediate supervision of L.P.N. and/or Nursing Assistants assigned to the shift. The R.N., acting as the charge nurse, demonstrates the ability to prioritize job functions and assignments in a manner that is appropriate to the level of care for the patients on the Medical/Surgical and in the Emergency Room. The R.N. participates in the orientation of new employees as directed.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Responsible and accountable to coordinate the Plan of Care of assigned patients during the designated shift.
- Performs and documents initial and ongoing assessments.
- Analyzes and evaluates patient data collected.
- Prioritizes plans and provides direct care to assigned patients.
- Develops a collaborative Plan of Care with patient, family, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Supervises and directs care provided by assistive personnel and other ancillary health care providers.
- Coordinates plan for teaching and discharge planning.
- Demonstrates clinical skills in providing patient care by:
- Intervening at critical and/or key points to achieve expected outcomes.
- Participates in the orientation of new staff.
- Shares knowledge with other staff as appropriate.
- Supports an environment that is conducive to professional practice by functioning as a role model and resource person.
- Practice is based on Hospital policies and procedures.
- Utilizes communication skills effectively when interacting with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Maintains current clinical knowledge and skills through professional journals, in-services, conferences, workshops, and/or seminars.
- Attends and participates in approved/requested committees and staff meetings.
- Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to variable workload and job duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS NEEDED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed by the State of Colorado to practice nursing as defined by the Nurse Practice Act, as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions. Current CPR certification required. Must obtain ACLS and TNCC certifications within one year of accepting position. Must continue to maintain certification.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Must maintain open communications with Nursing and other Health Center personnel, physicians, patients, patient families/guardians, community resources, and others.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Walking, reaching, bending, lifting more than 25lbs., grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling. Ability to communicate with patients, families, and other staff members.
WORKING CONDITION AND ENVIRONMENT: Inside a well-lighted, ventilated, temperature-controlled environment. Possible hazards include a busy and stressful environment, long hours, and exposure to biohazardous waste, body fluids, chemicals, electrical devices, toxic waste, needle sticks, and moving machinery.
