POSITION/TITLE: Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing
STARTING WAGE: From $33/hour plus
Sign On Bonus – $5000 with a 3 year commitment.
JOB SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse plans, manages and is accountable for the practice of nursing provided by the nursing staff to ensure quality care is provided to all residents. RN supervises Certified Nurse Aides as they complete their tasks. The RN is responsible for following policies and procedures and standards of the profession.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Gives direct cares to the resident, administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.
- Observes records and reports to DON/ADON symptoms, reactions and changes in general physical and mental condition of the resident.
- Reports to physician all falls and medication errors and any change of condition and incidents that warrant medical attention.
- Assist physicians with procedures as necessary.
- Admits new residents, completes nursing admission forms by assessing the new resident according to policy and procedure and completes discharges in likewise manner.
- Records observations and care given to residents per policy.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assist with the orientation and evaluations of nurse aides.
- Maintains safe environment for residents. Ability to recognize unsafe situations and be proactive in avoiding accidents.
- Understand the necessity to prevent back injuries to self and others by practicing proper lifting techniques and use of the mechanical lifts.
- Is aware of responsibilities for fire, safety and disaster procedures.
- Reports equipment in need of repair.
- Attends and participates in nursing staff meetings and in-services.
- Seeks educational opportunities to improve clinical competency.
- Practices economy in the use of supplies, time and equipment.
- Assists with implementation of written Care Plans for each resident in accordance with instructions of the attending physician.
- Assures nurse aides are carrying out preventative and restorative nursing procedures for each resident in order to achieve and maintain the highest possible level of function, self-care and independence.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times and to gain the resident’s respect and trust.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Colorado or in a state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- The Registered Nurse must be knowledgeable in regulatory requirements for nursing.
- Must have the ability to plan and supervise work and the knowledge of and use of equipment necessary to carry out nursing procedures.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, supervisors, and co-workers.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS:
- Must maintain open communications with Nursing Home and all other Health Center personnel, resident, resident’s families/guardians, community resources and others.
- Must have tact, respect and courtesy in dealing with residents, families, co-workers and all other disciplines of the Health Center.
- Must be aware of the importance of the interdisciplinary aspect of teamwork and working together to make the resident’s life more meaningful.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: In accordance with OSHA standard, the above job classification has been identified as having an occupational potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and body waste.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to assist in transferring a resident weighing 200+ pounds. Must be able to stand and walk at least 8-12 hours per day.
