SCHC Hosts Successful Inaugural 5K Fund Run to Support New Hospital Beds

Sedgwick County Health Center (SCHC) would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in, volunteered for, sponsored, or supported our very first SCHC Fund Run on May 9th. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, the event was a huge success and helped raise funds toward the purchase of new hospital beds for SCHC.
With approximately 70 participants taking part throughout the morning, the event brought together people of all ages — from toddlers in strollers to seasoned runners and walkers. The atmosphere was full of energy, laughter, and community spirit as participants made their way through the 5K course starting at the hospital lawn and finishing near the end of Cedar Street.
The event featured everything from superheroes and hilarious costumes to scooters, strollers, and even a bicycle built for two! One fan-favorite theme was the “chicken farmers,” inspired by the recent hen ordinance discussions in Julesburg.
A special congratulations goes to 9-year-old Lincoln Renner, who finished first overall with an impressive time of 26 minutes. Lincoln maintained a strong lead throughout the race and earned a backpack filled with swag and movie tickets for his accomplishment.
In the female division, Jory Aulston and Genni Koberstein crossed the finish line hand-in-hand with a time of 32 minutes, sharing first place and splitting their prize. The duo also won the award for Funniest Costume.
The success of the event would not have been possible without the many volunteers, sponsors, and organizations who stepped up to help. SCHC would like to thank:
- The Gateway Medical Foundation for sponsoring the event
- Lucy’s Place for donating breakfast burritos
- David Orth and Culligan Water for bottled water donations
- The Fort Sedgwick Historical Society for door prizes
- Communities That Care (CTC) for staffing the water station at Thompson Park
- The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for traffic control and safety support
- The many SCHC and Gateway Foundation volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly
From the cheering spectators to the runners and walkers who came out to support local healthcare, this event was a wonderful reminder of what makes our community special.
Based on the incredible turnout and enthusiasm, SCHC hopes to make the Fund Run an annual tradition for our community. Thank you again for helping us take steps toward improving patient care at Sedgwick County Health Center!
