Position Summary
We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant or Nurse to join our family medicine team at the Valley Medical Clinic of Chappell. This hybrid role combines clinical and administrative responsibilities to support the smooth and efficient operation of the clinic. The ideal candidate will provide patient-centered care under the supervision of healthcare providers. The Clinic Receptionist will serve as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals, providing excellent customer service and administrative support. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a positive demeanor.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
1. Understand, support, and implement the mission, vision, and values of Sedgwick County Health Center to deliver health care to those in need and in the performance of all job responsibilities.
2. Greet and prepare patients for the provider. Obtain and accurately record vital signs and other appropriate information such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications, and presenting problems.
3. Prepare patient and room for scheduled examinations or procedures.
4. Assist with clinical procedures and diagnostic testing to level of training and according to established procedures. Anticipate needs of provider for equipment and supplies, and needs of patient during exams while ensuring patient privacy and comfort.
5. Draw blood, perform EKGs, assist with diagnostic tests and clinical procedures appropriate to level of training and established procedures.
6. Obtain specimens.
7. Perform administrative tasks, such as informing patient of lab results, under provider supervision, call in prescriptions, and return phone messages as instructed.
8. Administer ordered medications with appropriate certification and training, under provider supervision.
9. Maintain clean and well-stocked patient rooms.
10. Assist with the cleaning and sterilization of instruments and maintenance of equipment.
11. Arranges for patient testing, including x-rays, labs, records, correspondence, etc. as needed by provider and patient.
12. Disposes of contaminated materials (body fluids, dressings, etc.) according to regulations and company policies and procedures. Utilize body substance isolation (BSI) techniques as indicated and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment protocols.
Front Desk Operations:
13. Greet and welcome patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals in a warm and professional manner.
14. Answer and direct incoming phone calls to the appropriate departments or individuals.
15. Schedule appointments, confirm patient information, and provide appointment reminders.
16. Register new patients, update existing patient information, and verify insurance coverage.
17. Maintain a clean and organized reception area. Clean the clinic on a daily basis to ensure a safe and orderly environment for care.
Patient Registration and Check-In:
18. Collect and enter patient demographic and insurance information accurately into the electronic health record system.
19. Verify patient insurance coverage and process necessary paperwork.
20. Assist patients with completing required forms and documents.
Customer Service:
21. Provide excellent customer service to patients, addressing inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely and courteous manner.
22. Ensure a positive patient experience by creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
Appointment Scheduling:
23. Coordinate and schedule patient appointments based on availability and medical staff preferences.
24. Work closely with medical staff to accommodate urgent or emergent appointment requests.
25. Assist with rescheduling and cancellations as needed.
Administrative Support:
26. Perform general clerical duties, including photocopying, faxing, filing, and data entry.
27. Assist with maintaining and updating patient records and charts.
28. Collaborate with other administrative and clinical staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
Insurance Verification:
29. Verify patient insurance coverage and communicate with insurance providers to obtain necessary authorizations.
30. Assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits and coverage.
Cash Handling:
31. Collect and process patient payments, co-pays, and outstanding balances.
32. Reconcile daily cash transactions and provide accurate reports to the finance department.
Qualifications and Skills
Knowledge and Skills
· Emotional intelligence to communicate with people
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Proficient in electronic medical record use
Experience Preferred
Previous clinic experience is not required, but preferred if possible.
Education and Certification Requirements
CMA/CNA License preferred, but not required.
· Highschool diploma or equivalent
· Active BLS/CPR Certification required
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit for an extended period of time. Must be able to perform frequent bending, kneeling, lifting 25-50 pounds, reaching, squatting, and twisting.
Work Environment
Well-lit, clean environment. Going back and forth between patient rooms and working in office conditions and may be exposed to bodily fluids and other hazardous substances, including cleaning chemicals.
